Share

Mike and Tanya McHardy took home two awards at the KZN Breeders Awards held at Bellwood Cottages in Nottingham Road on Friday evening.

The first was Broodmare Of The Year for their mare Gypsy Queen, the dam of Gypsy's Warning. The second was for International Achievement for Gypsy's Warning.

Gypsy Queen, by Royal Chalice out of Sara's Warning(GB) by Caveat(GB) is the dam of 4 winners including Graded Stakes winner Surabi, who has a Fort Wood foal herself.
Gypsy Queen is a full-sister to two Graded Stakes winners - Royal Prophecy and Noble Destiny. Her half-sister Emperor's Warning has produced Grade 3 Matchem Stakes winner Tales Of Bravery (by Kahal). Gypsy Queen has been sent to Kahal to be covered this season and has a Fort Wood filly currently at foot.

Gypsy's Warning attempted a repeat of her Grade 1 Matriarch win on Friday night, and finished fifth. She was sold recently at the Keeneland November sale for $1.05 million, and she has earned over $500 000 in stakes.

Gypsy's Warning to date has had 5 wins in South Africa and 2 wins in USA. Rathmor Stud won the Equus Breeder Award 2011 For International Achievement for Gypsy's Warning.
