Rathmor-bred Acapulco Makes Cracking Debut In Sentinel Stakes

Rathmor-bred Acapulco made a cracking a debut at Clairwood yesterday in the Sentinel Stakes for two year olds, finishing a strong second by just a quarter of a length off the winner, King's Bay over 1000m.

In a 'double' for Rathmor Stud and Quest For Success Pre-training, Acapulco was also pre-trained at Rathmor by Bradley McHardy.

Owned by Vanessa Harrison, the talented two year old colt is trained by Dennis Drier and ridden by Sean Cormack. Fly At Em (Windrush) finished a length behind Acapulco for third place with Emperor Niarchos (Miesque's Approval) finishing three and half lengths off the winner.

By Stronghold out of Jumeirah Beach by Jallad, Acapulco was a R200 000 National Yearling Sales Graduate off the 2012 sale. His half-sister Soda Fountain is being offered as Lot 480 by Rathmor at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, taking place 26 & 28 April.

Soda Fountain is a very good-looking bay filly out of a young sire having his first progeny sold at Nationals, Mambo In Seattle. She is a half-sister to three winners. Her dam Jumeirah Beach, a three-time winner who also placed nine times, is an own-sister to Gr 1 J&B Met winner Zebra Crossing, and a half-sister to Equus Champion Older Female for two years in a row, Circle Of Life and Gr 1 Champions Cup winner African Lion.

Third dam is none other than Tecla Bluff(ARG), Horse Of The Year in 1982 who achieved 11 wins, including three Grade 1's - the Rothman's Durban July, SA Fillies Guineas and Cape Of Good Hope Paddock Stakes winner. She also took home a Gr 2 and Gr 3, and placed in Graded company. This exceptional dam-line has produced Mina Salaam(SNL), Bluffing, Major Bluff, Key Castle and Taima Bluff(ARG).

Jumeirah Beach has an outstanding Mogok foal from the 2012 season and she is back in foal to Kahal.

Congratulations to everyone concerned with this talented young horse, we look forward to much more to come from Acapulco.
